Ido Tea Bowl “Oogourai” [井戸茶碗 銘 大高麗]
I have been looking for the technical name of these glaze crawlings at the foot of Ido Tea Bowls, ever since I came across an image of Albert Pinkham Ryder’s “Curfew Hour”. I just found out that they are called “Kairagi” (梅花皮: plum flower skin), whose name comes from its resemblance to shark skin used on grips of Katana swords, which in turn is named after its resemblance to a cluster of plum flower blossoms.
